Sale Town Hall & Civic Centre is a £30 million investment built to bring the local community together. It involves a modernised Town Hall with Borough-wide council services such as planning and education, a refurbished library with purpose-built arts and performance spaces, linked low-rise car parking with up to 600 spaces (built to 'gold standard' for secure car parks), canalside residential housing and space for voluntary groups.

Focus were briefed to provide a full security package, but under tight time and budgetary constraints. The contract was designed by Focus' systems engineers in accordance with the new Disability Discrimination Act and BS8300, which is the code of practice for the design of new buildings to meet the needs of disabled people.

A package combining a comprehensive range of fire and security systems was designed and installed, comprising:

• CCTV
  12 Static and 6 fully functional PTZ cameras. This is a state of the art CCTV system that is remotely monitored by Trafford Borough security. High quality digital recordings with digital signature were applied, using DM sprite recorders with viewing accessible on site or in the Borough's security centre.
  

• DOOR ENTRY SYSTEM
  This was linked to every other Trafford council building across the Borough, integrating the existing council buildings. It was also linked into the buildings fire alarm system allowing for safe exit during an emergency.

• FIRE ALARM SYSTEM
  A hybrid system covering 3 quarters of the building using XP95 addressable protocol with 2 interconnected Morley 4 loop panels was installed, with remote repeater panels in the theatre area connected to a public address voice evacuation and xenon visual strobe light system. This was connected to the fire brigade.

• INTRUDER ALARM SYSTEM
  a 100 zone state of the art intruder alarm system was installed, monitored by the police and Borough council.

• PANIC ALARM SYSTEM
  The installation of a PA system in the interview rooms of the civic centre allows for the rapid deployment of security staff to troublesome areas if required.

• DISABLED REFUGE SYSTEM
  11 designated wheelchair user points were designed for use in event of evacuation. These allowed for the user to call for assistance to help escape from an evacuating building.

• INDUCTION LOOP SYSTEMS
  The installation of a induction loop system throughout for the benefit of those suffering with impaired hearing.
